La Amistad International Park
At 479.000 acres, this is by far the country's largest park , but it
is probably also the least accessible. The park covers a large part
of the Talamanca Mountain Range , and the name Amistad "Friendship"
, refers to the fact that it is contiguous with the sister park on the
Panamanian part of the Talamancas. Most of the park covers steep, lush
terrain and most of it has never been explored, but the virgin forest
within it contain a wealth of plant and animal species. The park is
most easily visited in the Las Tablas Area, near San Vito de Coto Brus.
