Barra del Colorado National Wildlife Refuge
Located in the northeast corner of the country, this isolated refuge
can only be reached by boat or plane. The refuge comprises the confluence
of the Tortuguero Canal and the San Juan River, and is one of the wettest
regions in the country. Home for crocodiles, poison-dart frogs, spider
monkeys and sloths, and at least 240 species of birds, the refuge is
best explored by boat , and is near the fishing lodges of Barra del
Colorado.
